every 3 months for the past 9 months i've gotten around to updating this...pretty much like clockwork

well the job is going well - get to play UNO w/ the crazies in the psych ward at least weekly so that's fun - also have had 2 patients recently tell me i'm going to hell (one was a schitzo who claimed she was Jesus and the other was just a regular joe)

racings been going well...

kent park was the first race of the season - derek got in a break w/ Lou and got 2nd, then i won the pack sprint for 3rd

then did a small race put on by DICE - got into a break w/ chad & dan and won the sprint for that

went down to Hermann Missouri and did the 3 stage race there - got hosed in the 20km TT because i'm too poor to have special aerodynamic equipment - then won a $150 prime in the crit and took 5th - & then for the road race i cramped like never before so was a DNF - oh well

then today was the iowa city Road Race - i somehow miraculously won!!!!! last year i initiated the winning break of 5 guys so was happy w/ 5th - but then this year was incredible - still in disbelief - especially considering that i stayed w/ chris last night and we were at a gentleman's club till 3am - no joke. so the race played out the first 3 laps pretty steady, then at the end of the 3rd lap a group of about 10 guys (most of the big name guys) got off the front so me and derek bridged up together...the finish straight was ~5 miles of tailwind and guys were attacking - i threw in an attack w/ about 2 or 3 miles to go and somehow stuck it solo to the line - as steve tilford wrote on his blog, "Eventually, some guy I don't know rode away."

well tomorrow is the old capital crit - i'm anticipating that is gonna be scary w/ the rain in the forecast - hopefully i don't wreck and end up like dominic

since my last update...oops...

what has happened...umm...finished up my internship...started working at the hospital...studied a lot...road my bike some...

...then this past friday i took my registration exam...and somehow i miraculously passed!

so that means i'm officially a REGISTERED DIETITIAN!!!!!!!!!!

uh, that's a pretty sweet feeling...got all that weight off my shoulders finally! then i'm gonna be movin later this week into a buddies house here in b-town...was sposed to move into an apt downtown but those plans fell through...oh well, should be more fun livin in this house w/ my friends

umm...guess that wasn't much of an update for 3 months worth of time...didn't really do much else, i did eat a lot of food...i do currently weigh the most that i ever have in my life...

...prolly should look into utilizing my own dietitian services and try to lose some weight

haven't updated in over a month...lots has happened...most importantly...

I GOT A JOB!!!!!!

luck was totally on my side for this, but a little over a month ago one of the clinical dietitians at the hospital that i'm interning at retired and i was offered the position!!!!!!

pretty sweet, basically i'm working now, but after november 20th (last day of internship) they'll start paying me

i've already found an apartment too...downtown burlington, literally 20 feet from the start/finish line of snake alley crit :) its this 150 yr old building that this lady is renovating currently into apartments through an historic building grant so the building has a cool old feel to it

other news...its friggin COLD outside...frost already and apparently it snowed up in iowa city this morning...its too early to start snowing already...guess its time to start putting on my winter fat

Well, I've been down here in burlington for about a month now.

the first week i was here there were bombs found outside the building...apparently someone is mad at the old folks so now we have a security guard

i've gone on the groups rides a few times...dennis usually shows up on his recumbent that has an 80-tooth front chainring...i dont like it when he does that

last week tracy went on RAGBRAI so i watched his dogs...and by "watched his dogs" i mean i cleaned explosive dog diarhea in the basement 5 out of 7 nights that i was there...then when tracy comes home the dog magically stops having the squirts...go figure

wonder if tator will drive us to the race this weekend on his motorcycle???

wow, been almost a month since i posted anything on here. for a couple weeks there wasn't much to reports...i entered races and dropped out a bunch.

but then last weekend i went up to minnesota with derek and schnee for the nature valley grand prix stuff. last year i won the crit in mankato and had a decent result at the hilly stillwater crit even though i crashed in the final corner.

well, mankato started out pretty good. i just sat in for a while, was a small field of about 40 or 50 cat 2/3 guys. about halfway through the race derek is near me and motioned to me that he was going to move up. so he takes me to the front, and we sit in the top 5 for a few corners and then i attacked with derek on my wheel.

the field let us get a gap but it never was more than 15 seconds. i was kind of worried because there was still 20 minutes left till the finish but it worked out perfectly since it was me and derek...we both train with each other so there wasn't going to be and cat/mouse games.

ended up derek taking the win, and me with 2nd...the pack started the shut the break down in the last few laps...at the finish line, 3rd place was within 5 seconds so it was a pretty painful last lap trying to not get caught at the line.

sunday was the hillly stillwater crit...by far the most difficult course i have ever raced. if you're not going up a hill, your bombing down hill going well over 30 in the corners...somewhere we maxed out at just over 40 mph

well, rolled up to the start of the race and everyone apparently had been standing there for like 10 minutes...guys have been doing that lately...lining up stupid early just to get that front row spot...that's what happened down in tulsa, but was even worse because the pro women were still racing and these stupid men were lining up...horrible sportsmanship

so yea, started the race on the last line for about 50 or 60 guys. since the start is immediately into two hills, it wasn't too bad trying to move up to the front. was within the top 10 after the first lap.

*i should note that the start is at the bottom of the hill, and the finish is at the top of the hill

me and derek made it into the lead group of about 13 of us. guys were kind of timid this year so not a lot of attacking out of our group.

going into the last lap, derek took the front to try to lead me out. coming around the final corner was him, some dude, and then me....as i just noted, start at the bottom of the hill, finish at the top..."some dude" decided to sprint for the start line at the bottom of the hill and throw his arms in the air in victory...so that was kind of funny...

(that's will at the top of the hill starting his last lap...at the bottom you can see "some dude" with arms raised like a retard)

i then started to sprint for the top of the hill but my stupid front derailer wouldn't shift down so i was grinding the first half of the hill when the derailer finally down shifted...this guy from minnesota was able to get around me but i held on for second.

i'll take that...couldn't quite seem to get the win over the weekend, but i'm happy with the two 2nd places.

and then last night was this new crit in state center, iowa at the rose festival. it was a pretty aggressive race with attacks going off all the time but nothing seemed to stick. with 3 laps to go i hit the front and had andrew on my wheel with will right behind him. then with half a lap to go, andrew took will to the last corner and he sprinted for the WIN!!!!!!!

it was sweet...definitely a team effort for that win...reminded me of last year leading out andrew for the win at the state crit.

well, i'm all moved out of ames now. started my internship orientation last week in ames. this monday i'll be in iowa city for a week for some seminars there. then june 30th or so i'll move down to burlington finally. i'm excited to start this internship. it's going to be real intense...40 hours a week at the hospital and then course work at night...the instructors say we will be doing 50-60 hours/week with everything...ugh!

tomorrow is the hummer hammer crit here in davenport. should be funn racing with the air show going on right by the course.
